We contracted with JP McCurdy to resolve issues with the electrical work in our 200 year old house. We asked them to remove all remaining knob and tube wiring, clean up/resolve issues with the newer wiring, add new circuits for the kitchen, install an exhaust fan in a bathroom, install hardwired smoke detectors on each floor, replace/upgrade our service and electrical panel, and add new switches and outlets to some rooms

Dave and Mike did an amazing job. They spent a couple of weeks at the house carefully rewiring the entire basement and upgrading our service and electrical panels. What was a mess of wires held to the ceiling with duct tape is now arranged on runner boards and we haven’t tripped a circuit in the kitchen since. They found a lot of illegal and unsafe wiring and corrected it also always making sure that we were aware of what they were finding and what they would recommend resolving the issue. They completed each item on our list so now we have peace of mind that the electrical in our house is safe and up to code. I wouldn’t use anyone else for electrical work.

“We have an old two-story cape, ca 1849. JP McCurdy did a whole-house electrical overhaul: remove knob-and-tube wiring and rewire all circuits; replace fuses with circuit breakers; rewire ceiling fixtures; wire for (and will ultimately install) recessed lighting in the kitchen, two wall sconces, two closet lights, and cellar lighting; re-wire the washer-dryer outlets; add new switches and outlets; wire for smoke alarms and a kitchen range hood, and add an exterior outlet, and other things I’m sure I’ve forgotten.

We could not have made a better choice. From his first visit to scope out the work, and in each successive visit, Rich listened carefully. He was thorough and clear with his estimates (which compared favorably with other estimates we got). And he was infinitely patient with our many revisions.

Rich set clear expectations about what the work would entail. He set a start date and stuck to it.  He and his crew always let us know when they were going to show up and what they were going to do – and showed up like clockwork. Crew members (mostly Derek and Jim, but also Mike and Joe) were wonderful. Their work is impeccable, their work habits efficient, and their clean-up habits excellent. Their attitude was great: easygoing, flexible, accommodating, and very personable.

To date, they have completed all of the wiring and some of the lighting installation (the rest will happen after the ceiling work is done).

We will continue to use JP McCurdy for any additional electrical work we need and heartily recommend them—with no reservations.”

A+ service.  I had discovered a rusty rotting junction box in basement while pulling down some old drop ceiling.  I called J.P. McCurdy and was able to set up an appointment that worked with my schedule.  The electrician came on time, was polite and professional, and was able to take of the junction box in no time at all.   While performing this job he was able to give me an estimate on having a new electrical line run to my kitchen for the use of my dishwasher (it kept popping the circuit)  the estimate was reasonable and he had finished the job before I realized it.  Very professional.  I highly recommend them and I will be using them in the future for any electrical needs.”

“We live in an old house.  Their challenge was to get a cable wire to our computer in our attic room… They were very courteous and very polite.  They are polished.  The estimate was good.  When the job was being performed Mr. McCurdy showed up to supervise.  All the people that you interact with from the receptionist to the estimator to the person who did the work were courteous and polite people.  They were very neat and clean in the work they did.  They did a very good job.  Hey had to run a line on the outside of the house because of the age of our house.  The way it was done you really can’t tell.  It was put in neatly.  We were very pleased.  I also like that they send e-mails occasionally on electrical updates.”

When Jack came to my home for the initial meeting and scope of work I knew instantly that he was extremely down to earth. The home inspection for this new to us house identified numerous problems with the electrical service that needed correction, some immediate. Most of Angie’s list electricians we called took weeks to schedule the estimate and took several more weeks to provide the actual estimates.  Some of the estimates did not even reflect the work we’d discussed.  Some came to scheduled appointment but didn’t provide estimate until long after promised date.

Wish I’d called JP McCurdy first. They came out the day after contact and did a very through examination of our many problems. I received a complete written estimate the next day. It was equal to or significantly less than others that we received as well as those that continued to trickle in after work was completed.

They started the work the day after I authorized it. It was a very difficult job and they were persistent and well dispositioned throughout. They resolved intermittent problems patiently running through them until the cause was found.  It was a pleasure to have such committed hard working people in my home.
